Organizer: Africa Oil & Power and African Energy Chamber

Description: COVID-19 has only intensified the debate on the renewable energy transition. The world’s incredible decrease in energy consumption caused by COVID-19, and the unprecedented collapse of the oil and gas markets, has some arguing that 2019 was the peak for oil, and clean energy will dominate in the years ahead. Still others, however, see cheap oil as a hit for renewables long-term, as struggling economies will turn to cheap fuels and oil production to power their industries. What is the future of the energy transition post-COVID-19?

Organizer: ATA Insights

Description: With the rise of large scale solar projects in the MENA region and the increase of requirements, there is a bigger need from the suppliers to provide solid guaranty. The financial bankability is directly linked with the quality of the product however we don’t have enough track records in the region but we have some interesting case studies. For example in Africa, there is a lot of sub-quality products that are showing their weakness after less than 1 decade of use.

Finally,  a lot of projects are on hold given the sanitary situation and Chinese manufacturers drastically slowed down their production with some possible negative impact on the company’s health. What would be the consequences on the market and how bankability could still be a good indicator in this context.
