The Role
The Area Business Manager will lead sales, collections and distribution operations in the area they are assigned for the direct distribution of Sun King Solar products sold on Pay-As-You-Basis (also called and recognized as “EasyBuy” Business unit) through a network of agents called as “Energy Officer”. EasyBuy technology and services allows customers to purchase units by paying for their Solar products in small installments, thus ensuring they are extremely affordable for off-grid or rural customers. The Area Business Manager is ultimately accountable for generating sales, ensuring collections are timely and accurate and keeping the entire Direct Distribution growing rapidly in a sustainable manager.

About the role

Report
Meet sales targets and distribution targets through a freelancer sales force and third party distribution network
Responsible (with support from logistics team) to oversee safe import and storage of stock in-country (around $5M of stock to be imported in 2019)
Manage our supplier relationship with our outsourced technical provider to complete installations promptly
Responsible for the shop and ensuring customers can get their problems solved promptly in your region
Work with HQ marketing team to coordinate marketing campaigns in your province
Manage relationships with local authorities and ensure that all appropriate local authorisation are obtained and relationships maintained

About you
5-7 years’ experience in retail operation
In depth operations experience, for example from a telco or satellite TV provider

The principle area of focus will be CLASP’s clean energy access portfolio, which aims to accelerate the deployment of high quality, energy-efficient products in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and beyond. CLASP’s energy access portfolio includes the Efficiency for Access Coalition, the Low Energy Inclusive Appliances Program, the Global LEAP Awards, and Lighting Global Quality Assurance, among other initiatives. A secondary focus will be expanding CLASP’s market development work to on- and weak-grid contexts.

The Chief Officer / Senior Director will be responsible for leading CLASP’s growing Market Development team based in Washington, DC, India, and – in collaboration with CLASP’s East Africa Director – Nairobi. They will work collaboratively with CLASP team members in the United States, Kenya, India, Europe, and elsewhere, along with our wide network of international partners and program stakeholders. They will develop and nurture partnerships with stakeholders around the world, including funders, program implementers, appliance manufacturers, distributors, users, and other NGOs. They will contribute to overall organizational direction and strategy, and in particular lead the strategic direction of CLASP’s energy access portfolio and broader suite of market development initiatives.
