Description: Solar power systems are considered a key tool in the energy supply for the present and future generations. Several factors have promoted the development of photovoltaics such as environmental concerns, incentives and tax deductions, a more performing and less expensive technology and the need to replace carbon fossil energy systems with renewables to ensure compliance with the objectives set by the Paris COP to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

A solar cell or photovoltaic cell is a device that converts the sunlight into usable energy. The amount of sunlight that can be converted into electricity is referred to as solar cell efficiency. There are some factors that should be taken into consideration to guarantee the optimal efficiency of the solar panels.

In this Showcase you will hear directly from LONGi’s Technical Support Specialist Kevin Robinson Learn how Company’s range of high efficiency products create increased value for your projects.

Organizer: Black Energy Professionals Association

Description: The Black Energy Professionals Association (BEPA) in partnership with Enlit Africa will be hosting a Webinar on Thursday, 21 April 2022 under the theme “Energy Transition: Is the South African energy sector for a Just Transition to a low carbon, climate resilient and sustainable society?”

The energy sector continues to thrive in South Africa and plays a significant role in growing the economy. There is poor participation by black professionals, especially black women at a strategic and commercial level. BEPA was established to address the aspirations of black industry participants. BEPA represents the specific interest of black people with the aim to achieve transparent broad participation in all the energy sectors. BEPA actively tries to create solutions and solve problems facing black professionals who are either involved or keen to play a role in the sector. Given the aforementioned; the objective of the webinar is to, among others, reflect on energy transition and facilitate a conversation amongst leaders in the energy industry as their share their knowledge and answer the question: “Is the South African energy sector for a Just Transition to a low carbon, climate resilient and sustainable society?”

Organizer: ATA Insights

Description: CSP with thermal energy storage is a flexible renewable resource that can be used to generate electricity 24 hours a day, if necessary, and quickly ramp up and down in response to demand and the needs of the grid operator. When ramping down, the output is not wasted; instead, it can be stored as heat in molten salt tanks and deployed hours or even days later.

As more variable renewables such as PV and Wind are deployed, the flexibility provided by CSP with thermal energy storage could hold the key to decarbonizing the power sector, particularly in countries with high levels of direct normal irradiation.

Join this webinar to learn more about the lessons learned in established markets such as Morocco, Spain, UAE and USA, and to better understand emerging opportunities in Botswana, Chile, China and beyond.

Description: Hydrogen has already been used in industrial applications for many years, but there is now an opportunity to produce this hydrogen with very-low or totally carbon-free energy sources thanks to solar and wind energy.  Thanks to cheap renewable energy, experts forecast the cost of hydrogen production falling from $6/kg in 2015 to around $2/kg by 2025.

As a result, green hydrogen has become the hot topic for industrial activity and decarbonization around the globe.

Some African countries are ideally positioned to take part in the global race to produce the cheapest green hydrogen. Several landmark projects have already been announced and started across the continent. Moreover, Africa is in a special position where it could benefit twice from green hydrogen: on one hand it could become a major global production hub for export, and the other hand green hydrogen could also be used for local production of green ammonia and green fertilizers which the continent is currently importing in mass quantities.

In 2021 AFSIA organized its first green hydrogen e-conference and this event attracted more than 1,000 participants.

The market has significantly evolved since then, and this year’s e-conference is expected to attract an even larger crowd to hear about the latest technology, project updates and the players who are positioning on this very promising industry.

Organizer: PV Magazine

Description: Sustainability and the environmental impact of PV plants is fast climbing up the agenda. Indeed, it is becoming increasingly essential to consider the entire life cycle of PV when making decisions about materials and products. For PV plants, mounting systems have a key role to play in improving solar’s green credentials, from the perspective of both projects and companies.

Steel is the material of choice when it comes to mounting systems due to its relative low cost, robustness, infinite recyclability potential, and its long-term durability when combined with the latest generation of protective coatings against corrosion. Given these benefits, and combined with new production technologies, the use of steel will continue to grow in popularity when it comes to the engineering and manufacturing of mounting structures with a minimised environmental footprint.
