  • to establish a baseline for access to electricity in the country,

  • to ascertain the extent of awareness on energy efficient technologies for clean cooking and determine the extent of wood fuel usage.

This survey will also be used to track the progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #7.1 on access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy by 2030.

Description: The assignment forms part of the Africa Energy Access Flagship which will present a strategic investment roadmap to support SubSaharan African (SSA) countries in the path to achieve universal energy access by 2030. Description: The Republic of South Sudan has received financing from the African Development Bank towards the cost of the Juba Power Distribution System Rehabilitation and Expansion Project, and intends to apply part of the agreed amount of this loan to payments under the contract for Consulting Services for Feasibility Studies of the proposed 400 kV Juba - Nimule Transmission Line Project.

The South Sudan Electricity Corporation (SSEC) now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.). Consultants may constitute joint ventures to enhance their chances of qualification. The Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NELSAP-CU) will support SSEC in the procurement of the consulting services as well as contract management of the assignment.

Description: Building on the draft Handbook developed in Phase I, Phase II is focused on field testing and refinement of the handbook in partnership with the Governments of Ethiopia and Uganda. The objective is to facilitate a process of policy dialogue in both countries, leading to the development and - if appropriate - publication of a roadmap, in each country. The roadmaps are expected to include: a) an official government position on the role of PAYG, and off-grid solar, in contributing to national electrification and digital economy goals; b) clearly identified policy issues or opportunities to be addressed; c) a preferred policy approach to addressing these issues or opportunities; d) a plan for meaningful advancement of policy reform. Phase III will focus on finalizing and publishing the toolkit, based on insight and feedback collected through the field-testing process.

The project seeks to ensure that the region meets its goal of universal energy access for its over 300 million people, by developing a high-quality gender responsive, regional energy market development strategy that taps into the innate entrepreneurial capacity of ECOWAS women. Harnessing this capacity would lead towards increasing the establishment of women-owned energy businesses and the deployment of energy technologies to meet the energy needs of the region’s largely unserved population.

Description: IFC is conducting an initial project preparation phase for a renewable energy platform in Nigeria, which focuses on embedded solar PV generation and distribution franchises. The platform is expected to be implemented alongside a local financial partner. For this purpose, embedded generation refers to generation projects under 20 MW connected and evacuated through a distribution network.

In this project preparation phase, IFC is seeking a financial advisor to recommend an optimal financial structure for the renewable energy platform. The assignment will include a market assessment (including sizing up the investment opportunity), portfolio strategy analysis, funding & capital structure optimization (at both the platform and project levels), investor sounding, any relevant governance considerations, and recommendations on issues related to the creditworthiness of the DisCos, local currency financing, and other implementation risks that may be identified in this phase.
