Date: 29 February - 1 March 2024

Location: Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Description: FMO and Solarplaza will host the ‘Future of Energy’ summit in Amsterdam, uniting a global mix of top project developers, financial institutions and investors, service providers, and asset owners to tackle the strategic challenges of accelerating the renewable energy transition in emerging markets.

The global energy and climate future hinges on emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) to successfully transition to clean energy systems. For EMDEs, accelerating the deployment of renewables can bolster their energy access and security, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and meet net-zero targets. Currently, only a fraction of global clean energy investments flows into EMDEs. How can we redirect attention and financial efforts to the developing world and harness the potential of RE technology to overcome regional challenges related to uncertain policy frameworks, the rising cost of capital, and the perceived increase of investment risks?

‘Future of Energy’ is a must-attend event for everyone rising to the challenge of RE project development & financing in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. The scope of this 5th edition will encompass renewables in the broadest sense, including hybrid (wind & solar) applications, green hydrogen, energy storage, e-mobility, distributed energy, and grid infrastructure. Through networking opportunities, interactive panel discussions, and world-class keynotes, ‘Future of Energy’ will condense a year of business development into two days of learning, network-building, and good fun!

Date: 16 November 2023

Location: Holiday Inn Harare, Harare Province

Description: Zimbabwe recognizes the importance of renewable energy, including solar energy, in meeting its energy needs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting sustainable development. The country has set specific targets to increase the share of renewable energy in its overall energy mix.

Zimbabwe's Renewable Energy Policy of 2019 aims to achieve a 16% renewable energy contribution to the total energy supply by 2025. Solar energy is a key component of this target, given the country's abundant sunlight resources. Zimbabwe had a total installed solar energy capacity of around 24 megawatts (MW). This capacity was mainly derived from small-scale solar installations, including residential solar systems, solar water heaters, and solar mini-grids in rural areas.

The conference will feature a series of informative sessions, panel discussions, and presentations by experts from various fields related to solar energy. Topics covered will include rooftop and utility solar power generation technologies, energy storage solutions, policy frameworks, financing models, market trends, and innovative applications of solar energy in Zimbabwe.

It will serve as a platform for networking, partnership building, and showcasing cutting-edge technologies, products, and services to a diverse audience, including government officials, industry leaders, investors, researchers, and solar enthusiasts.

Date: 26 – 27 October 2023

Location: Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel, Salima District, Malawi

Description: Malawi is currently facing significant challenges in its energy sector, particularly in terms of energy availability, accessibility, mix, security and sufficiency. With approximately more than 80% of the population lacking access to energy, development efforts are undermined considering that energy is a catalyst for sustainable development. Furthermore, about 70% of Malawi’s energy comes from hydro sources with production centralised on the Shire River in southern Malawi.

Consequently, the country is heavily dependent on a single energy source leading to vulnerability. In order to help in addressing these issues, the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA), in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Development Partners, aims to organise the 2023 National Energy Conference. This conference is a successor to another successful conference held in 2022, themed “Energy – Catalyst for Sustainable Development.”
