Description: West Africa’s power sector faces numerous challenges with consistent demand growth, high tariff for industries, affordability and reliability, the question of alternative generation capacities has been brought to the fore.

Bringing electricity to more households and businesses, improving reliability, and harnessing the region’s substantial renewable energy resources—day or night—will help accelerate West Africa’s economic and social transformation.

Over the past decade, the World Bank has financed close to $2.3 billion of investments in infrastructure and reforms in support of the West African Power Pool. Financing and moving towards renewables is considered the key to achieving universal access to electricity by 2030 in the 15 ECOWAS countries.

Future Energy Nigeria will be continuing with its tradition of delivering interactive discussions, podcasts and articles geared towards the entire West Africa region.

Description: The East African region is presently experiencing various challenges which must be adequately addressed if the envisioned fully integrated regional power market is to be realised.

It is not only insufficient power generation that stands in the way of the region’s progress but the absence of interconnectors to wheel power across borders as well. The need for investment in power generation facilities and high voltage power lines cannot be overstated. To overcome these challenges, the region must establish itself as a favourable destination for investment and financing.

It is now more important than ever for the East African utility and energy industry to gather and share information, best practices and, most critically, continue doing business. With Future Energy East Africa being well recognised for its contribution to the East African power sector, we will be continuing with this by delivering an East Africa Focus week with content geared towards the region through podcasts, webinars and articles.

Description: Solar Energy is the energy of the present and of the future and of course, the way to go. This has been globally ascertained. Manufacturing is at its peak and the advanced countries are taking advantage of the trend. Dependence on fossil fuel for energy generation is already becoming something of the past as there are already electric cars, solar street lights, solar homes, micro and mini grids that run entirely on solar energy.

The conference will allow native government officials, technicians, engineers, solar energy experts and entrepreneurs and business developers to interact and exchange information with representatives from leading international solar companies and foreign government agencies. This opportunity will without doubt stimulate and strengthen direct and indirect cooperation within the international technical and commercial communities, which is a prerequisite for much needed support of the development of sustainable solar energy industries in Africa.

Description: Africa’s energy potential, especially renewable energy, is enormous, yet only a fraction of it is being currently employed with a total capacity of 13GW. With an installed capacity of 37GW, hydropower provides around a fifth of current capacity but not even a tenth of its total potential is being utilised. Utilities Middle East's Africa Power Summit 2021 aims to bring together key stakeholders within the utilities space including investors, government bodies and financial institutions to discuss investment opportunities within the African electric utilities sector and how to penetrate the market.

Description: Net-zero targets are increasingly mainstreamed in the political agenda around the world. Recent years saw political commitments towards carbon neutrality from various national and regional governments. In the energy sector, fossil fuel use needs to be substantially reduced. Massive electrification of end-uses and synthetic fuels produced with renewable energy is expected to be the energy transition's backbone. Other direct forms of renewable energy and energy efficiency are also likely to play a vital role.
