Description: South Africa has already procured 18 GW of renewable energy and is set to procure an additional 21 GW through its competitive procurement programme. Namibia and Botswana also have ambitious plans to deploy 5 GW of solar power to become self-sufficient and, in time, export power through the Southern African Power Pool, which interconnects 17 countries. These initiatives, often have the support in international development banks, that are ramping up their efforts to enable Africa to expand its energy generation capabilities and transition away from coal.
Join this workshop to gain an insider’s look into the opportunities and challenges that Southern Africa offers for renewables and energy storage.
