The digital infrastructure Gold Rush: What Africa needs to turn its AI ambition into reality

Date & Time: 28 April 2026 at 2 pm SAST

Organizer: ESI Africa

Description: This webinar explores the shift from data export to data ownership, positioning data centres not simply as technology assets, but as foundational infrastructure for economic competitiveness, national security and industrial growth. As hyperscalers expand into African markets and governments push for localisation, the conversation is moving from policy ambition to physical deployment.

However, scaling digital infrastructure is not just a demand story, it is a systems challenge. Power availability, connectivity, regulatory alignment and investment readiness will ultimately determine where and how capacity is built. At the same time, utilisation gaps and uneven market maturity raise critical questions around timing, demand conversion and long-term sustainability.

This session brings together perspectives across investment, infrastructure and technology to examine what it will take to build domestic compute capacity at scale. It sets the foundation for the in-person Data Centre Summit at Enlit Africa, advancing the conversation from strategic framing to implementation.
