Description: CSP with thermal energy storage is a flexible renewable resource that can be used to generate electricity 24 hours a day, if necessary, and quickly ramp up and down in response to demand and the needs of the grid operator. When ramping down, the output is not wasted; instead, it can be stored as heat in molten salt tanks and deployed hours or even days later.
As more variable renewables such as PV and Wind are deployed, the flexibility provided by CSP with thermal energy storage could hold the key to decarbonizing the power sector, particularly in countries with high levels of direct normal irradiation.
