Closing Gender Gaps in the Ethiopia Off-Grid Energy Sector

Publication date: 22 January 2021

Submission date: 15 February 2021

Category: Consultancy

Country: Ethiopia

Entity: World Bank Group

Description: Scoping in-country has revealed important opportunities for gender equality in the energy sector and an identified need and opportunity to increase women's participation in the sector e.g. fostering female entrepreneurship, expanding access to finance for women entrepreneurs and consumers, and supporting women to engage in productive and income-generating activities in the sector, etc. Under the Access to Electricity and Lighting in Ethiopia (ADELE, P171742) project that is currently being designed by the World Bank (WB), a focus is being placed on mapping relevant gender gaps and creating dialogue and buy-in for programs that could be designed to enhance gender equality in the energy sector in Ethiopia across various stakeholders such as the Development Bank of Ethiopia, MFIs, industry association, female business associations, cooperative associations and unions, etc.
