Description: Only an estimated 8% of Chad population has access to electricity (2014), with wide disparities between urban (20% access rate) and rural areas (5%). About 80% of connected households are in the capital NDjamena, where only 30% of the population has access to electricity. The limited development of transmission and distribution networks, together with the wide area of the country and the population high dispersion in most of the country, mean that decentralized electrification solutions will have to play an important role in increasing access to electricity, in concomitance with grid extension and densification.
