National Energy Profile of Sierra Leone

Publication date: 2012, June

Author: UNDP

Description: Recognizing the importance and urgency of energy challenges, the United Nations General Assembly last year declared 2012 the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All (SEFA). SEFA seeks to achieve three key objectives by 2030: (i) encourage universal access to modern energy services, (ii) double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and (iii) double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. Sierra Leone is being considered to become one of the pilot countries of the SEFA initiative. This report provides an overview of the current national energy profile of Sierra Leone using the SEFA template. The data and information were collected through reports, meetings, and interviews with authorities and relevant actors. Information collected from these sources has been complemented by desk research.
