Description: Decentralized solar systems, that is to say systems not connected to the main electricity grid, have bourgeoned since the 1990s in the Global South. It is in Africa, the least electrified continent, that these infrastructures are increasing most rapidly, with solutions such as solar home systems (SHS) or solar mini-grids for rural populations (ESMAP, 2019).
