Description: As an isolated island state with a small population, a high per capita income and a fragile physical environment, Seychelles faces development challenges and infrastructure limitations similar to neighbouring Indian Ocean islands. During the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) of 2008, unsustainable fiscal and monetary policies and a mismatched trade and exchange rate policy resulted in Seychelles defaulting on a major foreign debt repayment.
