Description: Africa is in need of increased accessibility to high-quality, sustainable, and low-cost electricity. Renewables are growing at a fast pace to cover energy needs, meaning much more variable renewable capacity at record low cost will enter the grid over the next few years.
Nearly 40 out of 50 African countries have deployed – or plan to install – renewable energy projects. And although the learning curve may be steep, inexperienced players will be able to leverage the lessons learned in Egypt, South Africa and Morocco and implement this knowledge into development plans.
In this webinar will analyze how the all-time low cost of renewables is creating an attractive environment for investment in Africa.

Description: In 2016, Egypt adopted the 2035 Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy, striving for a diversification of the electricity mix, with an increasingly growing share of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency along with gradual liberalization of the electricity market. The Strategy set a target of 20% share of RES in the electricity generation by 2022 and 42% by 2035. By the end of 2019, Egypt had 5,972 MW or 10.8% of renewable energy in its total installed power capacity.
In order to support this vision, in 2014 Egypt adopted the Certificate of Origin act as proof that the certificate holder (end consumer) has consumed the amount of electricity mentioned in the certificate from the origin (resource) defined in the certificate.
RES4Africa Foundation, together with the EU funded project “Support the technical and financial sustainability of the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors in Egypt”, is organising a virtual event on Wednesday 29th March 2021, in order to introduce the Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) to public and private stakeholders in Egypt and abroad, and to stimulate demand for the REC among industry and society in Egypt.

Description: In 2013, The Libyan Government launched the Renewable Energy Strategic 2013-2025 Plan, which aims to achieve 7% renewable energy contribution to the electric energy mix by 2020, and 10% by 2025. Nonetheless, recent political conflicts, together with lack of adequate policies, feed-in tariffs and lack of financial tools and guaranties are hampering the full development of the country’s potential, in terms of renewable energy sources.
In order to propose answers and solutions to those issues, RES4Africa Foundation and GECOL are organising a webinar, scheduled for the 25th March 2021, with the aim of sheding light on the renewable energy potential in Libya.
Through this webinar, RES4Africa Foundation aims to promote Public-Private Dialogue on the barriers and drivers for renewable energy investments in Libya with a focus on regulatory and infrastructure, as well as on the features of a bankable Power Purchase Agreement for the renewable energy sector in Libya.

Description: Hydrogen has been used for several decades by industrial companies because of its great convenience as fuel stock with regards to storage and transport. And thanks to decreasing cost of renewables, the potential for green hydrogen is now growing exponentially and opening new avenues of use for hydrogen.
The success of green hydrogen will be linked to its production cost and the African solar industry is ideally positioned to play a major role in this global industry as the continent enjoys some of the best solar resources in the world.
But other factors may still prove challenging and could limit the extent to which Africa will benefit from this nascent industry.

Description: With energy storage emerging as a vital technology for utilities to optimise their operations, accelerate renewables adoption and ensure the reliability of grid network, what role is the technology playing in helping grid operators achieve their goals and what are these goals?
With the US battery energy storage market set to grow from 1.2GW in 2020 to nearly 7.5GW (and 26.5 GWh) in 2025 (Wood Mackenzie) and Europe’s electricity networks in need of up to 485GWh of storage capacity by 2040 to meet climate targets ( ENTSO-E), how and where does energy storage generate value for both utilities and consumers?
Applications vary with the end goal but include energy arbitrage to offset costs, flexible peaking resources, frequency regulation to ensure AC current remains within the exact required tolerance bounds of the grid, reserve capacity.
Register to attend this webinar to understand which energy storage use cases are seeing widespread adoption.
